What is a good spacebar clicks per second?
Use your own score at the same duration as a baseline. Finger technique, keyboard settings and fatigue affect the result, and this site does not collect a population average. Compare a five-second run with another five-second run, rather than a longer session. Held-key repeat events are ignored.
Keyboard rollover and why presses go missing
Each non-repeating key-down event counts once. You must release the key before another physical press can register; holding it does not add repeated counts. Keyboard firmware, debounce settings, connection and browser event delivery can affect results. Compare slow deliberate presses, then another app or device if events appear to be missing. A successful short test cannot establish the keyboard’s overall health.
Free mode
Free mode counts until you press Stop, with the elapsed time and rate updating live. It is useful for counting anything, from reps to sheep, where the spacebar is just a convenient big button.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the page not scroll when I press Space?
Space counts a press when the page or test area has focus. On navigation links and other controls it keeps its normal keyboard behavior. Use the arrow keys or mouse wheel to scroll during a test.
Where is my best score saved?
In your browser’s local storage on this device, one score per mode. The scores themselves are not uploaded. Optional analytics records tool starts and completions only after consent. Clearing site data removes saved scores.
Can I use it on a phone?
Yes. Tap the large button to count touches. Touch and keyboard event delivery differ, so compare sessions using the same device and input method.
Does holding the spacebar count as many presses?
No. Held keys generate repeat events, and the page ignores them. Only a real key down after a key up counts.
Why is my 60-second rate lower than my 5-second rate?
Longer sessions are harder to sustain. Compare scores within the same duration and take a break if your hand becomes uncomfortable.
Is a spacebar counter the same as a clicks per second test?
Both count inputs per second, but this page uses a keyboard key or touch button. Device travel, settings and technique differ, so do not assume spacebar CPS should be higher than mouse CPS. Compare the same input and duration across sessions.
Does it work with any keyboard layout?
Yes. The page listens for the physical space key, so it works the same on QWERTY, AZERTY, Dvorak and non-Latin layouts.
